Faculty Participate in Professional Development Workshop
On Saturday, Oct. 27, many of our music faculty participated in an Arts+ sponsored professional development workshop — "Teaching Music to Students with Special Needs." Guest presenter Chelsea Waddelow, music therapist and adjunct professor of piano at Meredith University, gave an engaging session for our instructors on strategies to better serve our students with special needs.
Part of the session focused on philosophical and cultural issues pertinent to this population of students so that our teachers can better understand our families. The remainder of the workshop outlined practical strategies to better teach, encourage, and motivate our students in a way that best suits their specific needs. We hope that through workshops such as this and future opportunities, our instructors will be able to continually provide the best instruction possible to all of our music students.
